Getting to Wyoming... from the hilarious tourist traps all the way to beautiful Mount Rushmore!

We stayed in Minnesota a little less than a week, doing claims and spending time with family. It worked out that the claims were close to my house so we were able to stay there. As we were finishing up the claims there, we got a call on Wednesday, July 13 saying that there had been a large hail storm in Cheyenne Wyoming and we needed to be there by Sunday morning for an orientation. So we packed up again and headed out on Thursday, July 15.

On our way we drove through South Dakota and had been told to stop at the world’s only corn palace and a place called Wall Drug.  To break up our trip a little we decided to stop off for a little adventure. Well, they didn’t have much and were clearly tourist traps… but it was a nice little break and we got some fun pictures!

Corn Palace

Well Drug = another tourist trap

Naps are the best on long car rides!

We stayed in South Dakota that night and got to our hotel in the early evening to drop off our stuff and check in. Once we had checked in, we got back in the car and headed to Mount Rushmore. We were only about 30 minutes away from it and had planned to stop there along the way. We got there and hiked around a bit. As it turned dark, they lit up the mountain and had a presentation in front of Mount Rushmore. They showed a video of how it was constructed, a bit about each president, and the significance of why they had been chosen for the mountain. Once the presentation and video were over they shot off some fireworks to conclude the night. Overall, it was a really neat experience; not only did we learn quite a bit, but it was also beautiful and entertaining.
