Mommyhood- Jedidiah Benjamin 1 month

I cannot believe it has already been almost 6 weeks since Jed was born! Time has flown by so quick. I wanted to give you all an update on Jed's life and adventures his first month!

First of all, after leaving the hospital, Jed had his first Doctor's appointment 4 days later. We had been told that he would probably lose weight, and he could lose up to 10% of his body weight in the beginning. So it was to our surprise when they weighed him and he was 6lbs. 12 oz! He had gained 6 oz since leaving the hospital. The Doctor said when she saw that she thought for sure he had to be a formula fed baby, but when she found out he was solely breastfed she said he was the best breastfed baby she has ever seen! So we were very proud of our little boy and his eating skills! Boy, does he sure LOOOVE to eat! Fortunately, that has never had to be a concern of ours and we are grateful!

Some of the fun things we have been able to do with Jed in his first month:

We got to go up to the Norell's cabin, they are great friends of ours, basically like family. We went up there for a long weekend to spend time at the lake! Jed even got to go for his first boat ride!
Hanging out on the dock down by the lake

Auntie Emily was a life saver! She gave Sadie some loving while we were up there, and Sadie loved her right back! Sadie also loved the boat ride:)
Snuggin' with Grandma Jane at the cabin

Made his first trip out shopping... we went to the thrift store and Costco... very fitting for the Logans:)
His first trip to the Minnesota State Fair! Unfortunately he couldn't eat any of the delicious food this year, so he will have to go again next year for that:)
First trip to the Mall of America! He slept through the entire day there, which I think means he LOVED it!
His first time going to Chipotle, and daydreaming about what it will be like when he gets to actually eat there.
First trip out with just him and mommy to Aldi's... we decided to go without a cart and his stroller/car seat ended up being used as a cart! It's moments like those when you think to yourself, "people probably see this and think I'm a horrible parent... and they might be right..." and then you hope the groceries don't fall down onto your baby boy.
His first family day and picnic at lake Calhoun, we watched Sadie learn how to swim for the first time.
Daddy and Sadie playing in the lake and learning to swim!
His first time meeting his GREAT Grandparents on the Johnson side:
Great Grandma Briggs
Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Johnson
His first time being licked by Sadie when all of the sudden she realized there was a baby living in her home:

First time being held by his big cousin Cayden
Meeting his older cousin Amalia
Things Jed does NOT like in his first month...
Diaper Changes
He hates being changed and screams almost every time, we think maybe he just feels too exposed and embarrassed:) But really, most likely he just gets a little cold.
Being swaddled
From the moment we brought him home... he did NOT like his swaddle. This little boy loves to be free and move his arms around. When he was all wrapped up he couldn't move his arms, so the swaddle only lasted a few nights.
Bath Time
His bath is the last thing that Jed REALLY does not like!

Things Jed loves in his first month:

Eating

LOTS of cuddle time and napping, which we love!

 Tummy Time

His Pacifier

Staring contests with things... or people

Sleeping with his arms up in the air

His car seat
Whether we are driving in the car, or I put him in the stroller, as soon as his car seat has a little bit of movement he is sound asleep... which is a blessing since we are constantly driving from place to place!

Sitting with daddy while he works

Hanging out with crazy aunts and uncles!

Jed's week by week growth so far:

Sleeping habits? Jed has been a surprisingly good sleeper and overall happy baby. It has made transitioning really smooth and easy! From the beginning he would usually wake up about 2 times a night to eat and that was about it. Of course, he has had nights where he is awake throughout the night and his wide eyes just want to look around for hours, but we are learning to try to get his awake periods to happen during the day and then he sleeps great at night!

As far as crying, he has been pretty content most of the time, he mainly cries when he is hungry...which is majority of the day! :)

Oh Mommyhood...
Being a mom is the best thing I have ever experienced apart from being married and being saved. It's hard to explain how a tiny little person can take up so much of your time, energy, and your heart. Ben will get back from work and ask how our day was/what we did... and usually my answer is, "well it wasn't super productive... there was a lot of eating, sleeping, pooping and changing diapers involved."  But spending the day with Jed and being able to watch him and care for him has been beyond anything I could have imagined as a mom and it's the best! I have been blessed to have a smooth transition into motherhood, I know that is not what everyone experiences and I am beyond grateful for what it has been. Life is truly a miraculous gift from God and I treasure our wonderful creator even more since he has allowed me the incredible blessing and responsibility of creating and taking care of a precious little life.
