California 2011... Christmas and More!

There are so many fun things we got to do while in California; so below are some of the fun highlights of our trip!

December 7—Traditional Fudge making! Mark makes the best fudge every year around Christmas time so he opened up his “fudge shop” for the 2nd time of the season while we were out there! I was fortunate enough to be able to play a part in making the delicious fudgeJ

Family love:)
You gotta get ALL the leftover fudge from the pan!

December 9-12 Ben, Kimmie, Josh and I went out to Melissa and Kyle’s for the weekend.

Making and frosting sugar cookies!

Our pancake breakfast at the Harris's :)

Dec. 9- We got to go visit APU and see a few precious friends during our visit! (I didn’t do a very good job taking pictures of the people we saw while we were there, but below are good friends Josh and Chelsea Wood. We got to have dinner with them, play games and meet their precious baby girl, Naomi!

December 10- We had breakfast with Sarah Brubaker, Jess Serrato, and Ty Tuin! (Friends from our study abroad in Australia). Sarah was in California for Jess’ wedding; so we went out breakfast the day before and then went back to Jess’ house and helped get some wedding stuff ready for the big day!

Ben and Ty got put on invitation duty!

Sarah and I got put on dishwashing duty and here are the sparkling results!

December 11- Jess and Josh's wedding!!
Left to right: Ty, Ben, me, Jess, Josh, Chantel and Sarah

December 13

Our original plan was go to to Beni hana on our birthday since we have the birthday coupons for two; but we found out that the only one near us was closed. So we went out for our Benihana birthday dinner on December 13… SO delicious!

December 15 – Kimmie’s Birthday!! We got to celebrate our birthday and Kimmie’s birthday on the same day; she was very generous and shared her day with usJ

December 19- The Tyrrell’s (good friends of the Logan's) were in town moving their son Justin into college, so we met them and hung out for the day.

Kyle and Melissa Harris, Matthew Tyrrell

Mrs. Tyrrell and Kimmie

Our intense game of Settlers

December 22- The Logan's house is only about 10 minutes from the beach so we went there one afternoon and just enjoyed the beautiful weather and scenery.... gotta love California in the winter!!

The tides were low, so there were starfish and sea anenemeas everywhere.
Walking along the beach

...And then we went out for ice cream:)

December 23, 2011

It took us about 3 hours... but we did it! We hiked BIG CROSS. The Logan's live in a canyon in Malibu that is surrounded by mountains and hiking trails. There is one particular trail that is the "must do" and it is Big Cross. It is a pretty strenuous hike where you climb 2 different rock faces and when you finally reach the top you are at the giant cross. So we woke up, backed our backpacks and headed on our way and we conquered it.

December 24, 2011
This year's Christmas Eve was much different then what I am used to, that's for sure. Was there snow?? Not quite. Was I wearing a jacket? No need for it! It was about the farthest thing from a MN Xmas Eve that you could imagine (Though I dd here that this year it was quite warm there...) It was around 80 degrees! So we headed to the BEACH, yes, the beach on Christmas Eve.... and brought our lunches for the afternoon. Then we skyped and opened presents with family in MN. After that we went to the Christmas Eve service at church, and came back home, opened presents and hung out for the evening.

December 25, 2011

For Christmas, we went up to Santa Maria to visit Janice's sister Diane and her husband Jim. We celebrated with everyone there and Diane and Jim (who is the master chef of MEAT....) made us prime rib with all the Christmas fixings. It was delicious!

December 31, 2011

New Years day was spent hanging out with the Caraballo family (VERY close family friends of the Logan's). There were a few intense games of croquet; I was feeling very sick so I didn't participate, I napped. Followed by making gingerbread houses and enjoying the company of so many friends and family.
