FINALLY heading back to Texas our "home"...?

We headed out from Minnesota back to Texas the following Tuesday, (October 25th). We left around 7:30am and around 10pm as we were searching for hotels on our GPS, we decided to keep driving straight through to our apartment. We rolled into Lago Vista, Texas around 2:30am and plopped on the floor to sleep. (While we were gone we had our mattress taken back because it was too firm, so we came home to no bed!) It didn’t make much of a difference, we could have slept on rocks and not known the difference.

After being away from our apartment from July 11-October 25 we are finally back and it feels great! The first few days we spent unpacking and got settled in. Living at the Island apartments is like living at a resort, so we almost feel like we are back in Hawaii. Ben and I went downstairs one night to the pool and Jacuzzi and had it ALL to ourselves. The next morning we went to the workout room and no one else was there. This pattern has continued and it makes us feel like we own the place! Though it sounds like the perfect way to live, there is definitely good and bad to it. The good is that it’s great to have so many things to do at a nice place and not have to worry about other people. But on the other hand, Ben and I both enjoy spending time with others and playing games, so we would love to be able to knock on our neighbors door to meet them and hang out for a bit. Don’t get me wrong, we LOVE spending time together, but when you are together with someone for 24/7 and there is no one else to hang out with, you start to want to make some new friends to share your wonderful apartment with them! (and there are only SO many games you can play with 2 people before they begin to get old).

We were able to stop by and see Gene and Annie, (Ben’s Great aunt and uncle who live really close to us) and they invited us over for burgers and to watch the World Series. So we spent some time with them, ate dinner, watched the World Series and had ice cream; what a great night! If only it had ended with a Texas win… now that we are supposedly “Texans” we are starting to cheer more for SOME of the Texas teams sort of, but not really. I guess we dont have the true Texan pride quite yet, but we are working on it!  And dont worry, we are still faithful fans of the LA Dodgers and MN Vikings, though maybe we should seriously consider switching those teams and becoming faithful Texas fans!

It is so nice to have our stuff unpacked and all in one place. We have a fully functioning kitchen and everything else we could want in it! That is also one thing we have done since being back… fully utilized our kitchen and new utensils and it’s been so fun! Last night we made homemade salsa, chicken fajitas, stuffed peppers and beef jerky! There is not much to do in Lago Vista, it is a pretty quiet and quaint town; the closest Wal-Mart and Target are 35 minutes away. So buying groceries and making homemade things was one thing that we have enjoyed that we don’t normally get to do on the road in our hotel rooms.

Getting the fajitas ready

Homemade salsa, tastes much better then it looks!

Earlier in the blog I posted a few pictures of our kitchen and family room... here are a few pictures of our room

Notice how our bed is so low? We have a temporary blow up mattress until our new mattress arrives
