So much for being back in Texas!

Sunday October 30, 2011

Today we went to a church close by in Lago Vista.  We are trying to find a place to find a community and fellowship, something we have really grown to miss since being on the road for so long. We are really hoping to find some young couples and friends to hang out with and share in this season of life with us. Unfortunately, Lago Vista may not be the type of town that is best for those high hopes.  It is a wonderful, quiet and safe place, but does not have too many young people, at least that has been our experience so far. The church had so many welcoming and wonderful people. We went to the Bible study before the service and got to know some really great people. We felt a bit out of place, but appreciated the love and acceptance the church immediately gave to us. Overall, we decided we would not go back since it did not have what we were looking for; but today began the difficult search to find our “home” church.

Man does time fly! Just when we had finally gotten everything unpacked and finally in order and thought we may have some time to settle down for a bit, Ben got an email, the kind that determines where we are heading and when we need to leave. The recent snow storm in the Northeast needs adjusters for all the roof leaks, so we found our next destination was the Northeast coast. They are not specific yet, they just told us somewhere in Massachusetts, Rhode Island or Connecticut. Seems that we just left from up there, and it is time to head back! We searched through our storage unit looking for our warm clothes that were packed away and not so necessary for Texas weather. While searching, we wondered why we were leaving 70 degree, sunny weather and heading North to snowy and cold weather!??  Since I am a Minnesotan, you would think that I would have thick skin and be used to the cold, but I am a pretty big wimp and I LOVE my sunshine and warmth. So although this trip will give me a glimpse of my Minnesotan fall/winter weather, I’m sure I will soon be looking forward to going back to my new home in Texas, with the warmer weather.

After packing a little we visited Gene and Annie at their church's “trunk or treat”. Members of the congregation dressed up, parked in the church parking lot and had their trunks open with candy inside of them. The kids from the surrounding community could come and walk around the parking lot "trick or treating" at each vehicle. What a fun idea! We mostly wanted to visit to see Gene and Annie in their costumes; Annie made them clown outfits! They looked great and it was a large turnout of kids, what a fun night!

One thing I’ve wondered off and on is what is the purpose of Halloween? Where and why did it start? It seems like such a dark holiday and I’m not so sure it’s good to celebrate the so called holiday. What is it exactly that we are celebrating? I head a little kid ask their parent if Halloween was celebrating Satan’s birthday…good question! Though that may be a little farfetched, it seems a good question to ask. It has so many dark and negative things associated with it; just something I have been thinking about recently.
